Vagus Nerve damage

Vagus Nerve damage

I had two spinal surgeries in my neck.  I ended up in intensive care for seventeen days after the second one.  The doctor told me the vagus nerve was damaged.  I had tachycardia until they could find a medicine to stop it.  Then my heart doctor put me on Prevacid.  I now have a hiatus hernia as well as a hernia near my naval.  In the upper GI they also found an ulcer.  I am on several types of pain medications.   One being the Fentanyl patch. I have tyroid problems and diabetes.  I was dignosted in Nov. 2009 with diabetes. I have lost fifty pounds and no longer insulin dependent.  I have very bad indigestion.  I was told this could be from damage to the vegus nerve.  Can you give me insight into this matter?  Can the damage to the Vegus nerve cause the indigestion problem as well as the ulcer, and hernias? Can the thyroid problem be from the Vagus nerve.  I had the gall bladder taken out last year and continue to have pain. I am not a smoker or drinker. Recently I have had some anxiety problems. Help!

Hi...since u have hernias, I would suggest u also look into a condition called Ehlers-Danlos....and here is some info to support the vagus nerve's relationship to ur condition.

The biochemist Carey Reams, PhD, said, "Illness begins with the Vagus Nerve." The Hiatal Hernia Syndrome (HHS)--by pinching the Vagus Nerve--causes Vagus Nerve Imbalance (VNI). This imbalance is usually a hyperexcitability, but a decreased energy state is also possible at some point in time. In a Hiatus Hernia, or Hiatal Hernia, the upper portion of the stomach protrudes through the opening (hiatus) in the diaphragm muscle. I urge the reader to go beyond any preconceived notions that this condition only causes GERD (acid reflux) and minor discomfort.

There is much more on this topic if u r interested.....from what I understand the vagus nerve can affect many other issues.

U do sound like u may have autoimmune issues....as do I...Hashimoto's thyroiditis....not sure if this is what thyroid condition u have, but with the hernia it is likely.
