i had hiatal hernia surgery 10 years ago, it worked great , and  1 year ago my symptoms returned hard, look for alkaline diets on google, give it a try for a week eating 70% alkaline foods and 30% acid, i was suffering for extreme acid reflux, i changed my diet and stop using 40 gram nexium , i am out of nexium now and feel better than ever, no bloating, no reflux and my  throat feels like singing!!!  i hope it works for you!
god bless!

Hi MaryAnn and welcome to the forum.

I also have a hiatal hernia....and am in the process of changing my meds from a PPI to a histamine blocker.

I am not a dr so I can not say,May I ask.... what dosage r u on and how long have u been on it?

Also did ur dr tell u to make some lifestyle changes to help lessen the amount of acid produced? We have a list along with foods to avoid in our health pages.(see link in the welcome message or icon top of this screen)

It is very important to follow the tips included in this list....eat several small meals...avoid tight clothes.....sleep in a bed with the head of the bed elevated.....

Please post an update on ur progress or another question.
