help 7.5 months unable to tolerate any solid foods reflux baby

Hi
I have a daughter who is 7 .5 months old seems to be unable to tolerate any solid foods (we have tryed rice, sweet potatoe, pumpkin, pear, bannana, avocardo and even panadol sets her off as well as teething rusks.)
She has slient reflux and is on Losec 15 mg a day in a divided dose. I started out breastfeeding her I tryed many breastfeeding elimination diets (as she had colic) until her pediatrian put her on Neocate formular as I was losing weight dramatically and she wasnt improving much. At 4 months she started Neocate and what a differance it made to her. Previous to going onto neocate we didnt even know she could smile and laugh, now she is the happiest baby on the neocate.
We tryed to into introduce rice at 6.1 months as pediactrion recommended and it was a disaster diarrhoea, tummy pain, excessive wind, colic symptoms which lasted 4 days after only having 2 teaspoons of plain rice pureed. We tryed again but on sweet potatoe 10 days later but again she was in terrible distress and so was I.
I have since tryed a few different foods (as above) under pediatriacains instrustions but everything seems to cause problems he cannot give me any answers as to what is wrong so he has refered her to an allergist who we have been on a waiting list for the past 4 weeks she sees him in a couple of weeks time I am so hoping he will be able to help.
I am very worried and confused 1 st time mum I have taken her to many doctors, 2 pediatrians, natropaths, chiroprators ect and she is currently on waiting lists to see an allergist and a pediactric GI doctor.
Could it just be that she has a immatture Gi tract? why can't all these doctors explain what wrong ? what is a reflux flare up ? (I didnt think that her distress after eating solids could also be pain from reflux  I thought the pain must be all tummy pain until I read the article on this site about introducing solids to a reflux baby)
Any support or guidance would be so so so apprecaiated!!!
Kellie

What ended up happening with your baby? Was it food intolerances? My 19 month old is still on neocate and can only tolerate around 9 foods or she too experiences those same symptoms...  All allergy skin tests come back negative :/

my daughter had reflux around 3 weeks old and was taken off meds for it at about 4.5 months. I too have tried to start her on solids at 6.5 months and she experienced excessive gas, rigid body, sleepless nights, and grunting. She also has a dairy intolerance. If I eat dairy she has the same reaction. The dr said to wait 2 weeks and try her on oatmeal and see. I am going to try that this week. But from what I have been reading I am guessing that her body is not going to like that either,. I would love to know any answers you get about your daughter or what kind of dr you felt best addressed her problems.
What have you found that works for compforting her pain during these times?

blessings

Does she have teeth yet? babies do not have the enzymes to break down solid foods unless they have teeth.  You'll know when you see the drool, that is what has the enzymes.  Sounds like you are exploring the right avenues.

Hi Kellie,

Both of my older girls had reflux and my middle daughter couldn't tolerate solids until age 3. She did have a dairy and corn syrup intolerance, but no food allergies. Her digestive system was just too immature to handle foods until she was 3. We tried baby food. Either she refused to eat it or would spit it out. If she did actually swallow some it would bother her and cause her reflux to get worse (flare). So we put the high chair away. After she weaned from nursing at 13 months we put her on goat milk after a trial on soy formula which didn't work. She was on goat's milk until age 3. At 2 1/2 we tried food, but her system couldn't handle it. Once she was age 3 we tried again and she was fine (finally!!!) and eats like a champ. She's 5 1/2 now and there haven't been any issues. I think her case was a little extreme and it probably won't take that long for your daughter. I would wait another 3 months and try solids again. You might want to try oatmeal and stay away from rice next time. She might do better on it. Just give it time.

Hugs,

April
