Gall bladder removal complications

I had my gall bladder removed 5 years ago..I never had bowel problems until after my gall bladder was removed. All my problems are in the morning. I go about 3 to 4 times in the morning and have spasms for about 3 hours ore so.  Afterwards I am able to eat all day and night without issues, however the mornings are very difficult for me. Some days are worse than others.... Is it IBS caused by stress and removal of bladder or just gall bladder removal?

You are welcome, as mommy2ofmany408 said, you are not alone.  I used to take either Trazadone or Amitryptaline before bed and that helped relax everything in the mornings.  Try to stay away from acidic foods, and fatty foods, and try a lot of relaxation techniques.  Never eat too close to going to bed.  Low doses of Bentyl may also help.  Bentyl is a common prescription medication that helps with IBS spasms.  Sometimes many years following GB removal people have also gained weight and that also contributes to changing the way fats are processed in the body.  So if this is the case for you, maybe exercise and good hydration could help also.   You kind of have to help your self from many angles to improve your condition.  When my symptoms were really bad, I had to be on meds, watch my diet, exercise, avoid stress, eat slowly, and take a hot bath in the mornings.   It really does take several months for it to improve, but don't give up.   It also wouldn't hurt to be working with an experienced Internist if you don't find relief.  They help people with more complicated problems.

Thanks so much.  Sometimes I feel like I am the only one dealing with this problem.  I am taking citracel at night and I see a slight improvement but not much to help out with the long morning.

I think you are experiencing a combination of both problems.  After my gallbladder was removed I experienced the same thing you are experiencing, and it really can wear you out in the mornings to feel sick like that.  If I become stressed out, then I have the problem come back, but if I am careful to relax and watch what I eat before going to bed, then things are fine.  It is also possible that your bile duct has expanded over the years, increasing the bile flow.  You might want to try taking a medication that absorbs excess bile and see if that helps, as well as an antispasmodic or a sleep aid to relax the colon.
