? risk/signs of colon cancer, petrified of colonoscopy. Please anyone! I feel like I'm at the end of my rope.

I was curious about the symptoms of colon cancer?  I used to have IBS quite bad in my teens.  When I was 26 I had a colonoscopy (due to more blood in my stool than stool for 3 years) and they found 4-7 small pea sized polyps. That was 16 years ago. Back then I weighed ~82 pounds at 5 foot 5 inches tall.  They told me to come back in 6 months and then every year thereafter.  I never went back.  I am now 42 and weigh ~170 pounds.
The pain that I went threw was unreal during the colonoscopy (a total nightmare), I actually lifted myself off the table and hit the doctor in the mouth (with a tube up my butt) because he would not stop.  Next thing I knew he screamed for someone to get me down before I ruptured myself. After that I just remember waking up in a room with a bloody adult diaper on.  Sigh...Stupid on my part I guess with the tube and all.

Problem now.  My primary doctor wants me to come back for another colonoscopy.  My CEA results were 1.8.  I've had a ton of test and found out I have hypertension, hyperlipidemia, hypothyroidism, and type II diabetes.  .......hyperlipidemia, hyperglycemia, and hypothyroidism are all under control.

I have a lot of issues with bloating, gas and burping, all over  (bad) body pains/spasms, palpitations, chest pains, lightheadedness, vision issues (everything goes black sometimes, blurry or wavy after a rapid jump in my BP and heavy sweating).  I freeze when the temp is 72 or lower and (while sitting) if the temp is 80 or over feel like I'm going to pass out.  When I cough it hurts my ovary area.  I went to an OBGYN and she said that everything was ok hormonally and down there; but, that I did have a lot of bloating pushing down in that area probably pinching the ovaries.  Her advise to me was to quit drinking any coffee, liquor and smoking.  I'm at a lose and feel like I'm at the end of my ropes sometimes.  Coffee (4-6 cups/day), cigarettes (1-2 packs) and a couple drinks (2-3 mixed)...I know is wrong; but, at 42 I don't think could be causing all of this.  Fired OBGYN due to her advise.  Maybe I'm wrong..... I DON"T KNOW.  I just hate feeling like doo doo.

I have a Grandmother (on my moms side) that had colon cancer (it spread all threw her organs and an uncle on my father's side, also that is now gone to heaven.
My IBS seems under control (and has been for ~10 year), I have no blood in my stools and they are light in color. Most of the time it's airy type stools, sometimes flat but other times big and round, lately off and on a little constipation with pellets.  LOL  Sorry if that too much information!  This is soo embarrassing to talk about.  From what I understand....blood is a first sign.  I do not have this.  I don't know if any of this even makes since to you.

My big question is could there be a risk for colon cancer AT ALL with what is listed above.   I'm truly petrified of another colonoscopy!  There's only one group around here that does them and they won't change the med's they use for it ......in which don't do anything for me at all.  They told me to just do it and deal with it.  Sigh.  I don't know what to do?????
Sorry this is so long; but, actually I tried to summarize it the best I could.

Thank you in advance for any reply's.

I do not see any signs that point to colon cancer but with it being in your family I would want to be screened reguarly.  They are probably giving you versed and something else.  Try to relax and go through with it for peace of mind. I have had one overseas with no sedation before. I know it hurts when you are not out but tell them if you experience any pain.  They can always stop.

Your symptoms sound mostly like IBS and thyroid.  Are your thyroid levels ok?  They may not be your optimal level since you are having so many symptoms.  I would post your levels on the thyroid forum here.  If they are a little off then a change in your dosage of thyroid medication can make a big difference.  I have a thyroid problem as well and have palps and tachycardia and did fine with the colonoscopy procedures I have had .  They would not do it if it was a big risk.    You will be ok :)  Dont be scared. remember you can ask them to stop.

They called it twilite.  It done nothing at all for me.  I don't want to scare anyone; but, it was a nightmare for me personally.  I didn't feel as if they gave me anything at, all and I felt it all.....trust me.  I even asked when it would be given. (I thought it would be givin before anyone seen my bare bum.).  It was embarrassing and very painful as well!  Unless my symptoms match that of colon cancer....I will not have another one done.  No others outside of the area is excepted by my insurance.  I'm beginning to feel I would be better off dead than whining to my loves ones at this point.  Sorry I should not have said that.....just frustrated.

My heart conditions have me worried to with a procedure that has me so Very scared.  Thank you for your comments though.  HUGS

what meds do they use for your colonoscopy?  Can you drive to the next town to get one done.  They should accomodate you since you have had trouble before with the meds.  I had propofol for sedation with mine and I was out the whole time and no side effects maybe you can get it done at a place that uses this for sedation.
