3 weeks post gall bladder removal

Hi There

Had my GB removed 3 weeks ago. I am feeling well and have been up and going for the last 2 and 1/2 weeks.
However I still feel some discomfort, painful at times like a stitch pain, and still have a lot of gas in my intestines and general abdominal area. Also on my right side between my abdomen and back I have a burning pain across ribs/intercostals which are sore to touch....similar to shingle nerve pain.
Is this normal? Or at least the post op GB discomfort part of it.
Wounds and drain area all healed well. Stools still a bit loose and greenish at times, have a bit of nausea at times but helps if I eat something. This worries me as I am already extremely overweight (40kg)
Perhaps the fat factor also causes the discomfort?
Would appreciate your opinion.
Kind regards

It's possible that some of the discomfort may stem from the fact that you may not be able to process fats quite as well as you did before the surgery. It may take some time for that situation to change. You may want to consider following a low fat diet for a number of months to allow your body to make that adjustment.

However, if any sludge was present at the time the GB was removed, it's also possible that the sludge could have 'escaped' into the common bile duct and cause problems. You may need to check with your doc to rule out that possibility - espeically if pain is present that resembles a 'gallbladder attack.'  The presence of any significant pain or discomfort after GB surgery should not be overlooked - espeically by physicians. So if you consult your GI doc or surgeon and he/she makes little of it, get another opinion.

I can't believe it!!  Your story is exactly like mine.  I have pain now and diarhea after surgery 3 weeks ago.  I was fine after the surgery and now I'm getting pain.  I read that after gallbladder some people become lactose intolerant and I had ice cream last night and got sick shortly after that.  I will try to stay away from dairy and see what happens.  I just hope that we don't have bile duct injury.  Let me know how you do as time goes by and try to stay away from foods that make you sick.
