Abdominal Migraines and Gastroparesis

Hi I'm 24 years old and have been recently diagnosed with gastroparesis. I have been out of work for 2 months because I haven't been able to function without nutrition and liquids. It's been miserable, I was seriously doubting I was ever going to make it through and I'm still working on getting through it. For the first month I was eating a slice of toast or a few crackers a day and lost 25lbs. Every time I ate I would get nauseated that I developed a fear of eating. My GI dr. has now ordered me domperidone. I'm also taking an anti-depressant and anti-anxiety drug as well as Zofran for the nausea but hopefully when I get the motility drug it will help with that. I'm also in therapy now to deal with the stress of being sick as well as the stress that probably made me sick. I've been desperate for answers to what's been going on in my body. Hopefully with the drugs I will improve as I've ready some people still have issues even after attempted treatments. One of the findings I came across that my primary doctor mentioned (may be helpful to others with similar stomach problems with no solutions) was abdominal migraines or abdominal epilepsy. A lot of my symptoms are consistent with both even though they are both rare and hard to diagnose, and usually only if all GI tests come back normal. I read somewhere that abdominal migraines could be a cause of gastroparesis and thought it was worth looking into. I wouldn't say I have abdominal epilepsy though because I haven't been vomiting and the only way to diagnose that is with an EEG of the brain to check and see if there is seizure activity and then locating it. It's worth looking into asking your doctor about if you feel that nothing else has helped and like me are desperate for answers. I'm curious to know if anybody with abdominal migraines or epilepsy have had any success with treatments after being diagnosed and what those might be.

Abdominal migraines and epilepsy are pretty rare.  Have you had a gastric emptying scan?  Did you have any virus soon before your symptoms started?

I am also 24 and a female and was just diagnosed with gastroparesis and am getting ready to start Reglan. I have never heard of abdominal migranes or epilepsy. This is very interesting because all my labs and tests came back normal but I have been throwing up for 8 months and had my gallbladder removed already. I have extreme pain in my upper right quadrant and extreme nausea and vomitting. I am not diabetic so the doctors don't really know why this is happening. Any ideas?

Welcome to the gastroenterology community!  What symptoms are you having that make you feel like you have something else going on?  I too have gastroparesis, and a lot of doctors don't understand that gastroparesis can cause pain.  I am currently 100% J tube fed because of my gastroparesis so I understand how frustrating gastroparesis can be.
