Abdominal pain, rectal bleeding and low grade fevers...

Hi, I am a 41 yr old female with a history of bowel obstructions and a current diagnosis of Lupus.  Yesterday, very suddenly, I experienced the most intense abdominal pain of my entire life. It was actually so bad, I passed out from the pain.  I spent the next 4 hours bleeding rectally (no stool, just lots of blood and mucus). So far today I have had occasional cramps, but no more bleeding, but I did develop a low grade fever today of 100.0 and I have noticed that my left side of my abdomen is extremely painful when I press on it. Does this sound serious or since the bleeding has now stopped, is it okay to just wait and see? Thank you very much for taking the time to read this.

You definitely need to see a doctor.  That kind of pain followed by bleeding and mucous, etc.....If it were me, I'd want to find out what the heck just happened in there!
Hope this helps.  Hang in there!

Thank you for the advice, I am going to call my PCP first thing in the morning to let him know and see what he advises. If the bleeding starts again tonight though, I will be having my hubby drive me to the ER, as this is really scaring me!

I found out that the rectal bleeding is most likely a serious side effect of taking Pravastatin, which I have been taking for 7 days for high cholesterol.  Obviously, I am no longer taking it. Just glad I found out when I did, before I ended up needing a blood transfusion!

Thanks for the update!   What a relief!  That's some side effect.  Glad you're ok.
