Ask the docs if an excessive number of eosinophils were found in the esophagus. If they were, google eosinophilic esophagitis and consider speaking with docs who deal in that disorder. It's often overlooked.
Thanks for your replies. While he had his endoscopy we were told he has candida within the esophagus. He has been checked for food intolerance which have come back clear..
For the candida which is fungal infection and the thrush which is yeast infection, I would try yogurt and if he can't tolerate milk products there is a over the counter pill called Culturelle. I was told to use the culturelle if I am on a strong medicine that may cause fungal infections. It does help the pain in my stomach, but I have also had my gallbladder removed because of gallstones. A HIDA scan, ctscan and ultrasound found gallstones.
Was there any mention of a 'thrush-like' state found within the esophagus? Has he been checked for food intolerance problems - food allergies? Has anyone noted whether or not some foods or foods within a certain group make the problem better or worse? In some, some conditions that can seem like GERD or possibly irrititable bowel problems can be the direct result of 'allergies' or reactions to foods.
He has been taking them on and off for a long time....the medication may help temporarily sometimes but it comes back again
That is surprising that those meds didn't help the thrush. How long did he stay on those meds? Did it improve the thrush at all?
Thanks for the reply
For Thrush he has fluconozole, nystatin/dactarin..but they do not seem to help...He has never had a colonscopy or CT scan of his abdomen. I will mention it to his doctor on my next visit.
Welcome to the gastroenterology community! Was he ever treated for the thrush? Has he had a conoloscopy or a CT scan of his abdomen? It could be CIP (chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction) but this is very rare.
