Any Ideas?

I am a 23 year old Male. I am 5'5 and 110lbs. About 5 month ago I wokeup early in the morning with a terrible pain in my stomach area just below my ribcage above my bellybutton with a moderate feeling of nausea. There was no vomiting or diarrhea although I felt like i had to vomit to make myself feel better. The feeling was so bad I was unable to sleep and my wife ended up taking me to the hospital. At the hospital they gave me an IV and also gave me a drug through the IV that blocked my nausea. A few hours after being at the hospital I just felt better. At the hospital I had a xray done of my abdomen. No gallstones were found. They also took blood and everything pointed to healthy. They checked for h pylori which came back negative as well. So no ulcers. I had an endoscopy which was negative and a stool sample also came out negative. Later that night the discomfort and nausea returned. I was eating regularily during this time but not so healthy. Alot of boxed meals and soda pop. I rarely exercise.

I saw another doctor that told me I had gastroenteritis. Gave me a week of antibiotics that never worked. Came back to him feeling the same a week later and he sent me to a gastroenterologist. Before i saw the gastroenterologist I remained sick and stopped eating/ drinking unhealthy. I would sometimes force myself to vomit which gave me about 2 mintues of relief before the discomfort returned. When I met him finally, after hearing my symptoms he said I probably had acid reflux disease. He gave me like 20 bottles of sample Zegerid 40mg/1100mg omeprazole/sodium bicarbonate capsules. Took these for about 2 weeks and they did not help much at all. I rarely brought acid up my throat but I do on several occasions have food brought up. When I would go to sleep feeling sick I would always wake up the next day better until I ate. Then I would either get sick or not. This is the norm now. Any ideas on what might be effecting me? Thank you

Try giving him a teaspoon of raw liquid honey when his symptoms kick up. Let me know how that works for him.

I feel for you, my 16 year old son has had the exact symptoms since December 2nd, he also has been to the ER, GI and had colonoscopy, endoscopy, tons of blood work stool samples, everything is normal also, it is driving us crazy, if I find out anything or you do keep in touch, and the more I read on this forum I think something very weird is going  on because there is more of this than we could ever realize.  Good luck I will pray for you to get an answer soon.

I am new to this forum, but when i read your post i though i would reply.
ON sept. 24 2008 i had a lapso.nessin fundoplication to fix the acid problem i had.
It seems i had been having the acid reflux for 2 years before the Dr's figured out what the problem was.It took another 8 months to find a Dr. that would fix it without trying to fix something else that was'nt broke. For the 2 years and 8 months before i had the sregury
the acid just about destroyed my vocal chords. I cant talk very much anymore. I would
loose my voice before i could read this post aloud. My lungs took the harder hit.I have
lost more than half of my lung capacity. I am s.o.b. all the time. the wrap was to thigt
and had to be stretched and i am still not healed from the surgery. I eat 1 1/2 gram crackers per meal because of the pain when i eat.I'LL STOP HERE & I'M SORRY FOR THE LONG POST I JUST GET ANGRYWHEN I THINK ABOUT IT. GOOD LUCK &
I HOPE YOU HAVE BETTER RESULTS THAN I DO

Thank you for your response. I figured it was acid reflux but I just did not know much about it. Even when I eat healthy food thats not fatty or greasy or that even has any sodium I most of the time still get sick. Is there any ways to still feed myself and not make myself sick without medication? Small meals? Certains types of food? Any food ideas?

Any information to make my life easier would be appreciated. Thanks

It really does sound like acid reflux.  You need to see the gastroenterologist and try more meds and the 24 test to prove it is acid reflux.

I had acid reflux and a hiatial hernia.  Finally had the Nissen done and it is soooo much better.  If this is ever suggested, go to a bariatric surgeion and that he will do a loose wrap. Make sure he had done lots of laproscopic surgery.   That way if at all possible he can do the surgery by lapo.  It is not bad at all.  However, for a couple of weeks after the surgery you will be on liquids.  I used oatmeal a lot and this kept me from being hungery.  I tried to never to eat more than a cup at a time of anything but ate every couple of hours.  By doing this I never had the gas pains that so many complain about.

Best of luck
