Biopsy during Gastroscopy..is this normal?

Hi folks. Just thought I'd wander over from the MS forum to ask this question.

I went into OR today for a gastroscopy and a colonoscopy.

When I awoke from the knock-out gas the nurse said they took 2 biopsies during the gastro. My piece of paper says one from the esophageal__( ?), and one from the stomach.

Does anyone know if this is standard proceedure, or do they think they found something? I have to wait at least 14 days for the results.

Oh, my colonoscopy was normal.

Thanks.  Mike

Thanks patient915. I've got an appointment in 2 weeks, so I'll find out then if there's anything to worry about.

Welcome to the gastroenterology community!  The standard procedure differs in different parts of the world and with different doctors, but at least where I am, biopsies are almost always taken during an endoscopy/colonoscopy.  They will take extra biopsies if anything looks abnormal.  It is also normal to have to wait that long to get the results back.
