chronic lwr left abdomen pain

male early 30's 3 yrs with chronic pain in lower left abdomen is there all the time. Started 3 yrs ago.

-is worse on an empty stomch
-bloating
-has caused weight gain from eating excess food to help manage pain
-negative h pylori tests
-negative on upper gi endoscopy
-acid reducers make it worse ie. omeprazole etc.
-glutamine makes it worse
-bilberry helps a bit
-betaine hydrchloride helps a bit (but do not want to take too much as to burn stomach lining)
-spasms
-stools sometimes are in pieces and sometimes 2 colors (darker part and lighter part)
-have taken courses of probiotics
-cabbage juice doesn't work
-take flaxseed which may help a bit
-done a parasite cleanse
-taken garlic capsules
-taken enzymes

what else? Am vegetarian (8 yrs.) pretty active, healthy etc.

any help or suggestions appreciated.

how about taking more fiber?

thought it might be diverticulitis, so upped my fiber intake, eg. psyllium, inulin fibersure etc. didn't do much

If the pain is lower left quadrant the next step would be a colonoscopy to rule out any organic cause for the discomfort. Lower left - if in the area of the lower descending and sigmoid colon - can suggest pocketing in that area. Diverticulosis has, in the past, been thought to be found only in older persons. That's no longer true. So despite your age, you may want to ask your doc to check.
