son is sick weekly

My son has been sick weekly, for the past 8 or 9 weeks. He is sick for 1 day and then the symptoms go away, like he was never even sick- till the next week. He is almost 11 years old. He has missed many days of school and we have had many doctors apts. The doctor finally told me to take him to a specialist. I have made a  pediatric gastro appt, but it is a few weeks away. His symptoms are four smelling diarreha, foul smelling projectile throwing-up, belly pain (he rates the pain from a 1-10, and it is usually a 7 right before he throws-up), bloating, and rotten egg tasting burps. He has had no fever with any of these symptoms. Not sure why, but he usually starts not feeling well in the morning hours, although a couple of times he has gone to bed not feeling well. One time he did go to bed not feeling well, and he woke from his sleep throwing-up. He is otheriwse a healthy & hyper boy, whom I don't give candy too. Any info you can give me would be great!! Thanks!

Thank you for answering. We went to the GI specialist. She ordered blood tests, stool samples and a cat scan. The stool sample and cat scan came back good. But the blood test came back with high levels of IGE (which she said can be inflammation) and a high sedimentation rate (which she said could be an infection). So our next step is a endoscopy and colonoscopy. In the meantime she gave him a prescription for Levsin, which is to help him with spasms in his intestines. The meds seem to help, it's been 2 weeks and he hasn't been sick so far. We are going in the right direction, hopefully soon we will have an answer.

My son had the same symptoms starting at the age of 11- he is now 15.  His pediatric GI couldn't find anything wrong with him.  In the 5th grade he missed 20 days of school.  When he was 12, migraines started, along with the stomach issues.  (These were almost always in the a.m.-but as the day progressed would start feeling better)

He was diagnosed with abdominal migraines.  This was the wrong diagnosis.  At age 14 we finally got the right diagnosis, dysautonomia.  He is now sick daily with nausea.  His migraines have stopped, but he still has GI problems.

The autonomic nervous system runs everything involuntary, (digestion, heart rate, body temp, blood pressure).  My son has also been diagnosed with gastroparesis, slow emptying stomach.  The autonomic nerves don't make the stomach contract to emtpy it quickly enough.  Do some research on autonomic dysfunction or dysautonomia, and also gastroparesis.

I had to be my sons advocate.  The doctors kept wanting to blame it on anxiety.  Make sure the doctors don't dismiss you if tests come back negative.

Sorry to hear your kid isn't well. Since the appointment is weeks away I'd take him to a walk in clinic so the docs there can check him out.
