Botched Colonoscopy

I had a colonoscopy. The anesthesia didn't work even though they gave me twice the normal amount.  It felt like labor. When it was over they explained that the anesthesia didn't work because 3 of the meds I take counter act it. (I'd given them the complete list twice-I can only come to the conclusion that they didn't check my meds against the anesthesia or they would have given me the alternate anesthesia.)  I was in discomfort for a week. Last colonoscopy I was in no discomfort afterward.  I know I was fighting them.  Under those conditions can I be sure the doctor was able to get a good look at my colon? Do they tape colonoscopies, so I could see for myself?

Just get a copy of the report.  He will have dictated his findings.  If he couldn't get the scope through past a certain point, it will note that.

That's a shame, it does sound like they just ignored your medications!  They should have told you not to take the ones that would interfere with the sedation until after the scope.  If they didn't get a good view they normally will tell you, but under these circumstances I would contact the doctor and ask him this directly.  I think I would even seek out another GI doctor and ask him to interpret the findings of the scope for you, and have your next scope done by this doctor or another!  It's horrible that you had to go thru this.....another medical student that graduated at the bottom of his class and is still called "Doctor"! Take care...
