Causes of Inhomogeneous Pancreas on Ultrasound

I've had on-and-off mild nausea, including two episodes of vomitting. To check for possible gallbladder problems I had an abdominal ultrasound. The report showed a normal gallbladder but "inhomogeneous pancreas". The doctor has ordered amylase, lipase, and liver function blood work. I have been on proton pump inhibitors for years for GERD and eosiniphilic esophagitis. It's weeks before I can see the gastroenterologist. I have no other symptoms of a problem with the pancreas (no jaundice, abdominal pain, etc). Are there causes of an inhomogeneous pancreas on ultrasound besides cancer and pancreatitis?

I had some allergy testing done after the initial diagnosis of eosinophilic esophagitis, but nothing was conclusively identified as causative. Doctor's advice has been uniformly to manage it with proton pump inhibitors. It seems to me like I should be getting a CT scan or some other more advanced imaging to determine if there is cancer or something serious.

If you have eosinophic esophagitis, have you found the foods that you are allergic to - that are triggering some of the symtpoms that you're having? Eosinophic esophagitis is an entitiy that is distinct from GERD.

Vascular problems in to the pancreas can also cause an inhomogenous pancreas.
