Anyone have it because they had a long tortuous colon?

You will find many people on this site that have had a colon resection or their entire colon removed.  However, I am basically 100% sure that you will not find someone that has had a colon resection because of a long tortuous colon.  There are people on this site though that have had their entire colon removed because of chronic constipation that could not be controlled with medication.

I underwent a total colectomy in 2004 - but not for the complaint that you mention.  My problem was torrential diverticular bleeding.  In response to another Medhelp patient's question, I shared my experience on:-

I just found this from looking up tortuous colon. I have suffered with IBS problems for a long time as related to fibromyalgia. I was sent for a colonoscopy earlier this year and the results came back that I had a tortuous colon. I think I have finally got a handle on the constipation but I take multiple meds for it: senna S x2 at night, docusate calcium 3 capsules daily with meals and Lactulose 10 mls every other day. If I take more than that of the Lactulose then it goes the other way and I have major diarrhoea but if I don't take it at all then I have tiny pellet like BMs and extreme straining which has cause hemorhoids and a rectocele. I had the rectocele repaired before getting on the Lactulose and unfortunately it came right back because of the straining. I am in my sixties so, unlike you, I can expect some problems with bowels but I would certainly try Lactulose before looking at surgery - you just have to adjust the dosage to find what works for you. It can cause gas and abdominal pain but the relief is worth the effort I find.
