Thank you all for your comments. Hopefully I will be okay for a while, and won't be in to much pain. I just wait until it just gets really bad. In the mean time will try to figure out what kind of colitis I have. One test at a time.
An ultrasound is not the proper way to image the bowel - a CT scan can see of the bowel walls are inflamed and thicker, and X-Ray with Barium can help visualize the colon and polyps as well. The ultrasound is great for finding stones in your gallbladder, but I assume they would have told you had they found any.
A HIDA scan is an imaging procedure that helps track the production and flow of bile from your liver to your small intestine. Bile is a fluid produced by your liver that helps your digestive system break down fats in the foods you eat.
A HIDA scan, which stands for hepatobiliary iminodiacetic acid scan, creates pictures of your liver, gallbladder, bile ducts and small intestine. It can check for issues with your gall bladder, pancreas, liver and the flow of bile in that whole system of the body.
The gold standard for a colitis diagnosis seems to be a colonoscopy - I know this because my brother had ulceritive colitis.
Patient915 is right when they mentioned 'chronic colitis' as being a not very useful diagnosis - there are a wide variety of treatments for UC and other IBD ailments. It needs a proper investigation. I cannot get over how so many people with insurance in the US cannot get or afford proper treatment - is there no free clinic or county hospital that can help you?
Over the last 10 years I have about 7 episodes of sever stomach spasms that usually land me in the ER. I was hospitalized for the pain after taking Augmenten that had been the worse it had ever been. I get sever bloating and constant diarrhea unless I am taking Lora tabs then I have basically normal bowel movements. And my heartburn and or acid reflux has gotten really bad over the last couple of months. I can have as many as 8-10 bowel movements a day and sometimes none. That would about rap it up. So if there is many kinds of colitis how come they don't know what kind it is. Or even want to figure out what kind it is. I guess its not all that serious then.
Welcome to the gastroenterology community! Chronic colitis is a very unspecific term and you need more testing done to determine the cause. Is pain your only symptom?
