Distended gall bladder wall

I went in to see a D.O. at the pain clinic related to chronic low back pain that has become progressively worse  (I do have degenerative changes in a disc).  While he was examining me, he noticed I had a positive Murphy's sign and sent me up for an abdominal ultrasound to rule out gall bladder issues.  The nurse just called to tell me it showed a distended wall of the gall bladder and said that the doctor wants me to complete a HIDA scan.  My question is what does this signify and is there any way some of my lower back pain could be related to the gall bladder? (referred pain)?  I do have GI upset (vomitting) with greasy foods and some medications but do not have any major abdominal pain?  Any input would be appreciated.  Thank you for your time.

Greasy high fat food places a big demand on your gallbladder.  If there isn't enough bile for digestion, your gallbladder will spasm to pump more bile for digestion.  If you have gallstones, your gallbladder spasms but then plugs up.  It becomes enlarged, inflamed and sometimes infected.  Depending on the outcome of the scan, they could decided to remove your gallbladder.  Its an outpatient procedure in some places these days with only three holes.  It could be responsible for alot of your back pain.  I would stick with less fat and more liquids until you hear from the doctor.  That way, you won't make it worse.  Every woman in my family including me has had their gallbladder removed.  Good Luck.
