Ulcerative Proctitus

I am a 45 yr old woman who was just diagnosed  2 weeks ago from a (Sigmoidoscopy) with Ulcerative Proctitus. ( My blood test for Crohns and Celiac were negative) My Gi, who I have been with for about 8 years and trust tremendously didn't really know to much about why or how I got this?  She just stated that it is a "Bacterial Infection that got into my Stool". She asked me if I ate anything bad , or had any sickness that I was given Antibiotics?  No and No!! She gave me an Antiobiotic for 5 days along with a Suppository Medicine CANASA.  Wow did it work after just 3 days!  Great.  She told me to stop after 2 weeks.  Unfortunately it's only been 2 weeks since I stopped taking it after my follow up, and my SYMPTOMS ARE BACK!  I am devastated!  My question is that if it is a Bacterial Infection, and Antibiotics clear that up, then Why and how does it reoccur?  If anyone has been told by their GI a different reason of diagnosis or anything, PLEASE PLEASE I WOULD LIKE TO UNDERSTAND THIS DISEASE BETTER??  This is a screwed up disease to begin with, now worrying about it reoccurring every 2 weeks is HORRIBLE!  Any other solutions?

Thank you,
Although my GI has done all possible evaluations on me ( blood tests, allergies) it doesn't seem like she really knows what else to do but it's all TRIAL AND ERROR with the meds.  My question is why is it a Chronic condition, and why in my case just 2 weeks later did it come back?  Also Dr put me back on CANASA but after 5 days I had severe Naseau and dizziness that had me propped up in bed not being able to lift my head at all  for 2 dys!  Now she put me on Hydrocortisone suppositories but it is not working as well as CANASA.  Why is this disease so hard to treat bring that Thank God it's only in the Rectum and not inside the Colon or Intestines????

Hi there!

The recurrence of the symptoms may or may not be due to the same cause i.e. ulcerative proctitis. In case it happens to be the cause again, primary inflammatory causes, recurrent/ persistent infection etc. may need to be evaluated for. I would suggest considering a review with your treating doctor for a detailed evaluation and depending on the causes identified, it can be managed accordingly.
Hope this is helpful.

Take care!
