ERCP and Complications

I had GB removal in late Aug. Then Oct had a bout of pain in URQ this went on for 6 days. Went to ER and said it was something else. Then Nov 14 had another attack of pain this went on for almost 2 weeks after several ER visits finally admitted to hospital, high LFT, and turning jaundice and vomiting. The 26th they performed an ERCP. Removed 3 stones and sludge. Almost 2weeks later had another ERCP for still having sharp side pains. Removed more sludge. Now I am having a tender upper abdomen, near my right side rib cage, mainly have had cramping type pains in side since procedure. Now starting to get intermitent sharp pains. No fever, even during all the above problems.
Anyone have symptoms never mentioned for having ERCP?

yea, i actually had my first ERCP 2 days ago. I did have some discomfort, bloating type pain in the same area. My pain has begun to go away however. The doctors did say that it could have been from irritation and/or internal bruising from them poking around in there. You could have had a more severe version of what my complication was.

Yep - I had ERCP and sphincterotomy.  I felt horrible for about 5 weeks with pain and nausea, and then it just melted away.  Thank God!

Sorry but i don't have links but you can email mail me any time at ***@**** if you want.  The nausea was so debilitating to me!! It woke me up from a dead sleep.  I could not eat either due to that nausea.  Are they talking about doing another ERCP?  IF so, you need to ask them if you should get a sphincterectomy, that is were they cut the sphincter to make the bile be able to pass through so it doesn't close off.  My first ERCP didn't work, it wasn't until my 2nd on when they placed the sten and cut the sphincter even more because min was completly closed.  Let me know.

I had 2 ERCP's and a sphincterectomy within 1 week apart from a Dr. @ IU hospital in indiana.  You need to make sure you go to the right type of dr who has a lot of expierence.  My biggest complaint was not so much the pain as the debilitaing nausea, which everyone thought was just anxiety after 13 trips to the ER and a 25 pound weight loss within 4-5 weeks.  They didn't realize I had SOD until they gave me Morphine which then I had severe pain and my LFT's were high.  My nausea disappeared within days and I still have abdominal pain in my right side but It is manageable.  You don't want to keep going for ERCP's because it can scar the spinchter's and cause a lot of problems down the road.  You can read my information on this web site to let you know what I have been through to see if it will help in anyway.  It is under can't find diagnosis and scared.  Let me know if you have any quest. GOod luck

Yes I had the ERCP and Sphincerotomy two times now. I don't know if I'll be going for a 3rd or not. I can keep ya up-to-date on what's going on. Just trying to see if anyone else has experienced this.

I have not had ERCP, however had have all of the symptoms that you have mentioned.  My docs think that I have Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction, has anyone mentioned that?  I was scheduled for ERCP and Sphincterotomy - did you have that as well?  I am having some luck with Levsin, an antispasmotic (muscle relaxer.)  It didn't work at first for me, but now it's working, so I have postponed my ERCP and Sphincterotomy.  I never test with abnormal LFT - it's considered Type 3 SOD.  Anyway, it was just a thought.  Let me know what you think.
