Mrs rajne
I am a woman, 36 years old now with 2 kids. When I was 19, I was diagnosed to have a choledocal cyst. I underwent surgical operation for possible removal of the cyst which the doctor said the definitive treatment. The doctor failed to removed the cyst due to its size since it's a congenital defect that have grown already. It was not detected during my younger days. The doctor said he just made some incision to have a normal flow of my biliary duct.
After 4 yrs, I asked opinion from another surgeon if it's possible to have a second time surgery for complete removal of the cyst since i was experiencing severe infection on the affected part due to food reflux. I was dismayed when he said that another operation might risk my life and that what the 1st surgeon did was the best for me.
I would like to ask opinion from other expert surgeons what would be the best thing to do with my case. Do I have to wait 'til I reach the age of 50 wherein I'll be at the high risk in developing bile duct cancer? or are there modern ways of prolonging my life and getting rid of the cyst.
Thanks and God bless us all.

My son is now 12 years old and he was diagnosed w/ a choledocal cyst while I was pregnant w/ him... We were able to wait until he was 7 months old, so he would be bigger in size for the operation... The operation was a success and afterwards he was on antibiotics twice a day for a few years... He has now been off of antibiotics for about 7 years and is doing great... Only thing left is the scars on his stomach... Hope my sons success w/ the surgery will be some help for you...
