Make sure the doctor specifically has your stool tested for C Diff. A good friend of mine developed C Diff following antibiotics for a sinus infection. Using Imodium or other products that slow the diahrrea actually makes C Diff worsen. My friend had 3 successive bouts until the Gastric doc kept her on a specific antibiotic that only goes to the colon. I think she had to take the "right" antibiotic for 2 months and was titrated to lower doses to ensure the "spore" that cause C Diff actually disappeared. The GI doc explained how easy it is for this to recur if any tiny spores remain! In addition to the Rx, she added probiotics and some of the newer yogurts to her diet. Both things seemed to help or at least did not make the situation worse. If you have C Diff, the diarrhea is not food related.
Hope you are able to get to the problem resolved. Watching someone struggle through C Diff was awful. Chronic diarrhea can lead to dehydration. She ended up hospitalized in order to keep her hydrated. Follow up with a doctor and probably a gastric specialist.
I'm sort of experiencing the same thing. Though it’s accompanied by a constant all over sick to my stomach feeling. Blood and stool test came back ok from my physician and my GI suggested I go on a Probiotic (he recommended Digestive Advantage for crohan's and colitis) since I had taken Keflex (an antibiotic) a month ago for a skin infection, though he hasn’t run any test yet… and I still feel sick all of the time...
But maybe that’s some thing that would work with you??? I’d ask about it when you go to the GI and I think there is a way to test your stool’s for bacterial levels… but I’m not sure.
when ever your bowls are to soft and watery you have to eat binding foods like bannanas and white rice and potatoes....this is what i have to do with my son when he goes to much...thats all i can help with...
any update on this? I am experiencing the same thing
Aask your doctor, if Clostridium difficile test was included in your stool tests. This bacterium often overgrowths in the colon after (or even during) antibiotic treatment. The next thing: you may want to find, if you have allergy to certain food(s).
