C-DIFF

Does stool from overgrowth of c-diff have a different smell?
If so, what is the cause?

yowee....it sure does have an err umm "distinctive" odor.  Thats actually how my doc and I knew I was relapsing with C Diff each time - the odor.  Boron is right - every nurse I spoke to during my illness told me they knew when a patient had C diff just from the smell.

C-diff stool is supposed to have a barnyard odor, which is, as some nurses say, very characteristic. It comes from breakdown products of c-diff metabolism, for more, search for clostridium difficile.
