Heart Palpitations caused by Gas or GERD?

I'm a 27 y/o male in very good health, no smoking, drinking, little caffeine. I've had acid reflux since younger but it has been relatively minor. I've been experiencing heart palpitations which have been caused when gas builds up in my esophagus or stomach. I'm 100% sure it's not just a feeling. I went to the ER while I was having these symptoms and the doc said my heart was skipping beats about every 1 in 6 but it is nothing I should worry about as long as they don't skip every other beat or 1 in 2. My questions is has anyone else experience heart palpitations caused by gas or GERD? Is the nerve that is attached to the esophagus the same that controls the hearts electrical activity? I'm looking for as much information on this subject as I can find. Thanks in advance.

Rusty

I have been experiencing the same problems (indigestion with palps occuring soon after). I've had lab work, ekg, and echocardiogram done with no bad abnormalities showing in the heart. Dr. suggested a beta blocker but I don't want the side effects...He told me some people are just "wired wrong" and that abnormal electrical currents can cause the palps..  wish there was another way to control them because sometimes I get in a panic after having them...

You more than likely have a hiatal hernia.  The hernia pocket, which is in your chese near your heart, fills up with air and aggravates your heart.  I get them to.  HORRIBLE feeling to get.  Learn how to self adjust the hernia down or get a chiroprator that knows hwo to do it for you.  Gonna hurt at first but power thru that and you'll learn how to do it yourself.

Hello, I have just posted a question today 29th Oct. re. this very problem.   If you read that, you will see that our symptoms are almost identical, but I do feel very ill indeed with the heart palpitations.   If you would care to comment on my posting with anything relating to this I will watch the forum page.   Thanks.  Palp

Rusty, if you're taking some form of PPIs that could be the cause of the palpitations. Check the med and check whether it's known to change conduction in the heart.
