I'm 23 and for awhile (I don't remember exactly when it started) I've had bad heartburn and burping every single day. The heartburn is very uncomfortable and feels like a ton of pressure in my chest and sometimes feels almost like i can feel it around my heart (not really sure how to explain that). The burping has gradually gotten worse. It used to only happen sometimes and not last very long but now it happens every single day for the majority of the day. It happens when I'm hungry and it happens after I eat and it happens when I lie down to go to sleep. There are times when I dont burp but when it starts, it goes on continuously and the more it happens, the more it hurts. It feels different from a normal burp though and I'm so tired of it. I never taste any acid though and rarely have problems with my stomach.
I've been to the doctor many times and tried different prescriptions (Protonix, Omeprazole, Prevacid, and all the over the counter ones too) and nothing helps. They help the heartburn a little bit but don't help the burping at all. Is there anything that will help the burping? and is there anything that will help the heartburn. I cut out dairy and caffeine about 4 months ago (that's what the dr told me to do) but it doesn't seem to have made any difference at all. The burping keeps getting worse and it's so annoying and uncomfortable but I don't know what to do about it.
I've always been a good burper. I even won "The Loudest Belch" award at camp one summer.
My long struggle with the parasite Giardia began when I went to the doctor because of indigestion and excessive burping. I believe she thought I was nuts. She told me to take OTC Prilosec. Four months later, I was finally diagnosed with Giardia.
Don't take this lightly. YOU know your body and YOU know what is normal for you. Keep pressing the doctor to find out what may be wrong with you.
I am so excited that I may be able to help some of you.
All of you who have all these bowel symptoms could have a bad case of parasites or bacterial overgrowth. No I am not selling a candida product or any other foolish nonesense. I am not a quack. I am a housewife whose family has suffered from many of your same complaints all due to various parasites!!
I suggest you all do your reseach and go the Center for Disease Control and look at parasites and infectious disease also look at zoonotic disease to see the myriad of worms and parasites you can get from your pets. Doctors won't tell you because they don't know! Vets know but for some stupid reason they don't educate pet owners! I would suggest the following diseases to start:
Giardia- those of you with major amounts of gas & belching could most certainly have this. the literature you find will say that you always have diarrhea but I have since proved all the doctors wrong on this( it also causes constipation) or a mild case wont cause either
Bacterial overgrowth of the bowel syptoms (symptoms)
Also, if you have had longstanding untreated infections it can lead to various food intolerances especially milk and wheat.
Look at your stool
1.Is it greasy, floating, extremely malodorous=giardia
2. Is it mucousy=infection, bacterial overgrowth, worms pinworms
3. Is it bloody (not due to nsaid bleed or ulcers)=definite infection.
4 Mucous looks like spaghetti=roundworms
5.stuff that looks like small grains of white rice(when you haven't eaten rice)=tape worms.
Please go and do the research! You will be astonished! Doctors and even a lot of GI's don't even think of parasites. They are under the wrong impression that these diseases are only in third world countries or that they only occur in unsanitary overcrowded conditions. WRONG!!!!!!!
Please, if you have any questions I will answer with what I know from personal experience.
In my family we have had giardia, and my smallest child has suffered from all the other conditions listed above. It was only through alot of research, persistence with many doctors, and lots and lots of poop samples taken to the lab for analysis!
I know it is hard to believe our public health departments don't educate todays doctors on these things it is also infuriating to think that doctors don't acquire the knowledge but then lets face it even are medical schools are teaching them to just prescribe one of the many drugs for "gerd." My theory is that if most people on prilosec, tagamet, aciphex, etc. were given the tests necessary to find their infection then they wouldn't need it at all. Can there really be this much true "gerd" I think not. 1 out of 2 people worldwide have parasites. It seems like now 1 out of 2 people(esp. children) have Gerd? UHM? Something to think about!!!!
I've had an ongoing "conversation" and you can take a look as you scroll down and read "The stomach bug that never leaves". I agree with what you're saying. I spent 4 months being treated for ulcers using Prilosec, Aciphex, etc...I met with various doctors, had ultrasounds, an endoscopy and still they said I was stressed and treated me for ulcers even though no ulcers were found.
Finally, I said told the doctor, "You are wrong, look for something else". I also did not have diarrhea but fortunately they did a stool test which was positive for Giardia. No pets, no foreign travel, no well water, no hiking or camping ~ so where did I get it?
Yes, doctors are extremely misinformed and now I'm paying for it with my health. I believe the Giardia did so much damage to my intestines, followed by the Flagyl which stripped my intestines of everything good and bad. Now I'm left with the most severe case of Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I live every day in pain and discomfort.
Be as informed as you can and don't let the doctor make you feel stupid or crazy for what you're experiencing. It's real and you know it's not normal for your body. Keep after them!!
My dog gave me worms pin worms I did research an found when I clean a accendent from my dog I eat some egg's Gross hu well that shows how clean you need to heep your hands and arm's. or anything that might have touched a pup a cat.
