Hemorrhoids - is this normal?? Please help!!!

by Leah22, Oct 23, 2007 03:57PM
I was diagnosed with Hemorrhoids about 1 year ago. I haven't had any bleeding in about 10 months. Then yesterday I noticed some bright red blood on the toilet paper after a bowel movement....but I felt no pain. Then about 3 hours later, I thought I had to go to the bathroom again, but nothing came out, and I did push a few times. I did not have a bowel movement at that time, but several drops of blood did come out and I was bleeding again. It was bright red blood again, but I am nervous because I didn't have a bowel movement. Now, today, I am very sore and it hurts when I cough and move too much. Does this sound like a normal Hemorrhoid issue? Please help! Thanks a lot!

Hi,

I have been having the same symptoms.  I know that I have internal and external hemorrhoids.  I also have had blood drip in the toilet without a movement.  I saw my doctor two weeks ago and he ordered a colonoscopy.  He said that this was probably due to hemorrhoids, but wanted to rule out cancer in the anal canal.  I had a colonoscopy 2 years ago and everything turned out ok.  I have to say that it has been hard to clear my mine of the possibility of cancer...even remote as it is.  I also did a stool sample test about 2 months ago, and that was negative for any blood.

I think you have hemorrhoid problems as well, but you should see your doctor to rule out anything serious if you continue to see blood.

All my best!

PS: I am a 50 year old male

Thanks for the advice. I always get nervous, although I am almost positive it is just hemorrhoids. When I first started getting them, my doctor didn't seem too concerned at all and didn't order any tests for me. But maybe that is because I am 24 years old. I am seeing the doctor on Thursday though, and I will mention this. Thanks again! I was just worried that this wasn't normal.
