Hot liquid in the stomach...

Hi. What happens when hot liquid, tea or coffee, is swallowed, starting at the esophagus? Does the hot liquid "burns" its lining? Does the liquid starts to cool as it travels toward the stomach, maybe due to interaction with digestive juices? If not then does the lining of the stomach protects it from the hot liquid? Thank you for your reply?
