Night time problems digestive machinery

70 year old trim guy, mitral valve leak, heart disease, but active and generally appearing in good health.  Easy to fall asleep at night, but awake several times (prostate) during the night.  Have difficulty getting back to sleep, as I feel this need to belch, and am aware of digestion (sometimes some gas) in the intestinal tract.  Very uncomfortable.  If I get up for 15 minutes or so, suck on a menthol tablet, I can sometimes then get back to sleep.  Good diet, lots of fiber.

I have no idea if this is depressing me, or some depression or stress is causing that.  Last night, I awoke with serious gas, so much so I felt like vomiting, started sweating all over, got real wet, and then after defecating a fair amount of loose material, I felt relief.  That was an exception, but very alarming.

So far, no Doc has given me a decent diagnosis, and I have been through nearly all of the GERD type medicines, both prescription and over the counter without relief.

This discussion is related to Abd Pain, gas, vomiting, sweating, very ill.

Hi Dave,
Just read your post. It could be a number of things...the obvious abdominal aspects but since your have a history of cardiac, I would just mention to your cardiologist that you are experiencing this severe gas, sweating and slightly loose bowels as well. Sometimes, cardiac issues can present as intestinal issues from what I understand. I would just mention it to him as a precautionary measure and then I would see a gastro specialist. Definitely see a physician...don't try to diagnose yourself...be on the safe side. Good luck...hope you feel better soon.

Upper abdominal bloating (and burping) is often from H. pylori infection of stomach. It  may go with nausea and heartburn.

Lower abdominal bloating may be from lactose intolerance or fructose malabsorption. (Try lactose-free diet for 2 days, and if no help, additional low-fructose diet (check my journal) for 2 days).

If nothing of above will help then you should consider to have stool culture test, including Cl-difficile. Diverticulitis and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth are also posible.

I've tried to list causes from high to low possibility, check in peace one by one.
