Intermittent abdominal pain & vomiting

Hello all

When I was about 18 months old I had a 'gangrenous bowell', I had what I believe was a piece of dead skin wrapped around my bowell and I was ill to the point of near death, because of this I had surgery which removed a portion of my bowell.

Ever since I have intermittently suffered from agonising stomach cramps, vomiting, and constipation.

The scar from my operation is half an inch above my belly-button.

I notice the illness is beginning because I am unable to go the toilet/constipated,  I feel a gradually growing pain in my lower abdomen (beneath my bellybutton) which becomes distended, the pain soon becomes unbearable (I am a fairly strong 23 year old man, and it reduces me to a foetal position in the bed)

When I was younger I used to vomit naturally, but now the stomach pain and nausea become so unbearable I induce it, which normally causes a slight lessoning of the pain.

During this whole period of vomiting, which usually lasts up to four days, I am unable to keep  ANYTHING down, water, bread, anything, whatever I ingest will just lead to increased pain and need to vomit.

During the period I am vomting I will usually not go to the toilet

No matter HOW much I vomit, it will normally always last for the same amount of time (3-4 days), even when I am dry heaving because there is literally nothing more to throw up

When I start to feel better and stop vomiting, I am usually able to go to the toilet, this is father unfortunately found out by me trying to pass wind, and following through - I will have very very loose/watery stools for perhaps a few hours.

I have been to the NHS, given stool samples, urine samples, blood samples, all to no avail, I have cut out practically every different food type from my diet and this still persists, sometimes I have eaten a lot, sometimes I haven't eaten, sometimes I have drank water, sometimes I haven't, there doesn't seem to be a specific trigger, rather it seems to happen every few weeks for the hell of it

I've dealt with this my entire life but it is beginning to become ridiculous, when I am ill I am literally bed bound and I am missing too much time off work, not to mention the cavaties/fillings I have in my teeth from 20+ years  of intermittent vomiting!

Any info or help could be appreciated, I apologise if this is back to front.

Yes that could be a possibility, getting a colonoscopy sounds like a good idea.

Hello, I had a barium contrast test done about a decade ago

I had an MRI scan on my abdomen today and I have a coloscopie booked for next month, my Dr has theorized I could have scar tissue inside my bowell, leading to narrowing of the intestine and thus indigestion and vomiting.

Thankyou very much for your reply!

Welcome to the gastroenterology community!  DId you never have any other testing?  If not, I would recommend seeing a new doctor and getting more testing done.
