I would say that the fainting was probably due to low blood pressure from standing up too quickly. Most people have a small blood pressure drop when they stand up. If your blood flow isn't great (which I guess in theory could be related to ischemic colitis), then you can often have more of a blood pressure down when standing up, which can make you pass out. High blood pressure medications can contribute to this. If it happens again when you are off of your HBP meds, then I think it needs to be evaluated further.
Hello patient915 ,
No bleeding before or after the fainting. Both times just stood up, took a couple of steps and went down.
When I fainted first in November the doctor said it could be do to my medication for HBP. I decided to lose some weight to try to get off. In January I fainted again. This time I fractured my leg and tore my ACL requiring surgery.(Surgery was in April.) Doctor still wasn't concerned with the fainting. I pushed and managed to have a stress test that I sort of passed. Cardio said it was abnormal but normal for me because my past EKGs show the same?
Then last week the ischemic colitis diagnose. After playing on the computer I see what fainting and ischemic colitis have in common is blood flow. I don't want my doctors or myself ignoring what to me seems like an obvious similarity. Yet, so far they are saying I am just having bad luck.
I have managed to lose 35 pounds and am off my HBP med.
My family has a strong history of heart problems and strokes. I don't want to over react but I also don't want blinders on.
Welcome to the gastroenterology community! What happened after the fainting spells? Were you having low blood pressure? Were you having any rectal bleeding before/during the fainting spells?
