pain after colonoscopy

I have had Ulcerative colitis for seven years and have had about 4 colonoscopies; the fourth was done 2 days ago.
I've never experienced pain during the procedure, but this time it was very painful. I felt fine afterward, just the mild discomfort usually associated with it, but now every time I eat I feel uncomfortable, especially after dinner - I'm not sleeping because the pain is so bad. I haven't been passing any gas - could this be the issue? It doesn't feel quite the same as gas pain and it becomes worse when I eat, especially a meal. Has any one had this experience?

I'm concerned about perforation of the bowel. Can they not tell when they do the colonoscopy that they've perforated it? From some of the comments posted, it appears not. This is surprising.

Thanks for your advice! I went to the hospital yesterday and they found nothing after doing some x-rays and an ultrasound. They said it was normal to experience pain after a colonoscopy, which I found strange since I've never had it, but I'm relieved that everything is okay.

I would definitely call the doctor or hospital right away. I've had 10-12 colonoscopies and have never had bad pain afterwards. I am not trying to scare you. I could be nothing, but it is better to have someone take a look at you and tell you that than to live with the fear in the middle of the night.
