Listen to what I am about to say, I had the same issue as you, it went on for 3 to 4 years (progressing over time). I had a couple of episodes where I felt like I was having a heart attack, very scary, but I was in my 20's. Called an ambulance and was taken to the ER. They did all the basic test and scheduled more rigorous test that ruled out anything to do with my heart. I was so frustrated with the doctors and family cause they were signing it off as an anxiety attack. I am in no way the kind of person to get anxiety or stressed, especially since at the time of the episodes I was sitting, relaxing and watching TV. Had no reason for anxiety or stress. So when they couldn't figure it out they thought it was due to asthma attacks. I falled a methacholine challenge test, which indicted that I had asthma. Little did I know at the time that a good percentage of people fail a methacholine challenge test as a false reaction to the substance they use in your lungs. So it got brushed off and I gave up trying to convince the doctors there was something wrong. The pain would be so severe sometimes, especially during the night, that I would have to sit up and basically rock myself and massage my chest to no avail but I was hurting. So eventually, getting to my point, I clasped one day due to the pain being so severe and having been up the entire night. I was rushed to the hospital by ambulance again and this time they did an ultrasound on my chest and stomach and low and behold they seen that my gallbladder was extremely inflamed and in serious condition. They did surgery to remove it and I was cured and never felt that pain again. I asked why they didn't know that it was my gallbladder and how they failed me for half a decade with pain. Their awnser was that they did do a check/test to see if it was my gallbladder but it came back negative. They said sometimes it doesn't show up on blood tests, which is the cheaper way to test rather than an ultrasound. So basically because of the insurance companies ways of dictating the kind of care we receive I almost died and I suffered needlessly for all those years. I really want you to express this to your doctors, tell them if you want exactly what I told you an demand an ultrasound. I wish you the best and hope you figure out your problem.
If you think its gallbladder ask for HIDA scan, I had very similar symptoms to yours all my tests were normal except the HIDA scan which showed a sluggish gallbladder... I had mine removed on Monday... the surgeon told me that I had alot of scar tissues which indicated multiple attacks thats had been happening, but that never showed on anything, he only saw it when he pulled the gallbladder out. So I say ask for that test, its the main gallbladder function test. My problems started in May and i have now lost 40 lbs...I have had a few comolications since surgery, but hoping this will be turning point for me and can be healthy again very soon... keep us posted.
I just had a HIDA scan today after having symptoms very similar to yours...upper right abdominal pain, radiating to the back, upper right chest and shoulder... I have had blood work, Ultrasound and was diagnosed earlier last year with Gastritis...I have dealt with that pain..but this was a new one on me...I pursued and had the HIDA scan today...looks like my results are 20% GBEF, with normal of what they show being 35%. I am now waiting to hear back from the specialist to see what the next step would be....
