Worried

My mom and i have both had our gallbladders out, well i will occasionally get pain that feels like an attack will occur and thats as far as it goes. But she will get actual attacks, the pain and vomiting and sweating. Im so worried because it seems to be happening more lately. Now shes been to the doctor and they havent found anything wrong. She says its prob just her pancreas flaring up(she waited so long to have her gb removed it affected the pancreas) but isnt there anything they can do for her? Or do you think it could be something else?! Oh and her gb was taken out about 5 yrs ago if that helps.

Did they check her liver and pancratic enzyme level during or immediately after an attack - and I do mean immediate after - not 2 days later. It's unfortunately not unusual to have problems after GB surgery, and that doesn't mean only in the weeks or months afterward. It can happen years later.

If it is her pancreas, she should be following the instructions for pancreatic problems, which would be a change of diet and also taking pancreatic enzymes if necessary. You can find recommended diet changes at www.gicare.com.

But if the pancreas problems are being caused by spasms of the common bile duct or problems with the pancreatic duct, that should be handled more aggressively. A doc would have to do an ERCP with manometry to check the pressures in the different ducts and to make sure she's not harboring any small stones or sludge particles that could continue to cause problems.
