By the way, thank you for responding to me. I greatly appreciate it.
I have not taken an antibiotic in years. I only had this test with alot of other testing my gynocologist did. She tried treating me with high powered probiotics first but then after 4 months she tested me again and I was still positive. I have not started taking the Flagyl yet. She had first prescribed the vanomycin but it was so expensive and the pharmacy would have to special order it. So i had her switch to Flagyl. I called a gastreonolist office today that I had seen for some other problems years ago, they are suppose to call me back tomorrow about testing me at their office.
Thanks,
Anita
I am a nurse with alot of experience with these C diff cultures you have it, they get false negatives not false positive especially not 2, The Clostridium difficile was probably not present in the sample you gave that Dr, or you had already started flagyl. This is common. If you stopped the flagyl before the full course was complete you may have developed resistance, they may need to switch you to Vancomycin by mouth. Flagyl can hurt the liver but this is rare. It is a spore that is only killed with bleach outside the body, family members and co-workers may need to tested at the first sign of diarrhea, esp with that foul C diff smell Take the med and get a repeat in 3 weeks after you finish the flagyl, this can be difficult to kill. Research it, The CDC has lots of info on this posted on the net. Your family Dr probably does not have alot of experience with this in her practice. My guess is that you were on a broad spectrum antibiotic before this started like Augmentin, Cipro, Levaquin, etc..
