My wife is having her colon removed tomorrow due to ulcerative colitis. The doctor wants to do the proceedure in three surgeries has anyone else ever heard of this. First creates ileostomy and removes colon second creates the pouch lets it heal then reverses ileostomy then attaches pouchh to illeostomy.

It's often done in this manner. Check this out: http://www.uptodate.com/contents/ulcerative-colitis-beyond-the-basics  Go to the section on U.C. surgery.

Hope your wife recovers well.
