Stomach Pain in Child

My 12 year old son has been having pain in his upper left quadrant of his stomach, under the rib cage. We went to hospital and they mentioned it was his bowels backed up in the intestines. Weeks later and he started having these pains again, so i was given him a gas reliever as they told me to give him. He is still having these pains with black stool, headache and sore throat. what type of test should I request  and what could be wrong?

Your son needs to see a pediatric GI doctor.  It sounds like he is getting a blockage of some sort, and these do not happen for no reason.  Black stool results from bleeding in the stomach or small intestine. If you can't get him into a GI doctor right away, take him back to the ER and tell them you want his bowel and intestine scoped.  They may have thought that he had a simple case of bad constipation, I don't think so. The sore throat could be from acid backing up in his throat, like acid reflux.  But I think when you return to the hospital with these same complaints and symtoms, they will act accordingly. Please let us know what you find out.
