It was about 3 wks after I had my son, I went to the ER where I'm from. They took xrays of my stomach. Which I had went another time after that and they told me the same thing. Could they tell from the xray if I had stones? Would they show up on that or not? They told me that I was constipated. I go to the bathroom ( if I'm lucky ) twice a day and that's not often. I go about 1 every other day or sometimes longer. When I start to feel the cramps, I hurry and take that milk of magnesia, and after about 30 min. I pass alittle gas and most of the time, I start to feel alittle bit better. Its been about a week since the last time I had cramps. Is there anything that I could do, exercise or something to help prevent getting these cramps? Thanks
It is possible that you have some inherited disorder (from your mother) which makes you more prone to get gallstones. This may be a disorder in chholesterol metabolism or maybe changed absorption in your bowel. It could be only a coincidence, so maybe there is no underlying disorder.
You are not young for having gallstones.
Go on ultrasound. If by any chance, they won't find anything, and your problems will continue, there's an endoscopy available, it's like gastroscopy, but they can move further to peek directly in your gallbladder. Your blood tests can be perfectly OK with gallstones.
They will ask you about constipation. Maybe you only have a terrible constipation, but you'd knew that. If you're not constipated don't let them to give you this diagnosis. There are other possible reasons, including the tubes and colon at least.
I just found out that my mother had gall stones. Would that be passed down to me or not?
Thanks boron for your advice. I will make arrangements as soon as possible. I never had any of this after I had my daughter almost 4 years ago. Before I had my son, I didnt have any of the pains or problems with my stomach. Why would it happen all of a sudden? In the last 3 months, I have had about 5 or 6 spells like that. I cant take the pain. Would it be the food that I'm eating? I'm only 22 years old. Is that too young to have something like that??
Pain in the upper back and in upper stomach actually is characteristic for gallblader disease - inflammation or stones. Ultrasound is quite accurate for finding out this. If you can describe your pain as colic - it's like a long persistent cramp, this again speak for gallbladder or bile duct disease.
Try to arrange an ultrasound as soon as possible (not in February!).
