Stomach Polyps

I just had a endoscopy and 10 polyps were found in my stomach.  They were biopsied but I haven't hear from them yet.   I have been having problems with GERD.   Do I have anything to fear?  And what is the difference between polyps and tumors?

I do not believe that anyone - including your doc - could correctly comment on whether or not you have anything to worry about until you get the biopsy report back. Many people have polyps, some come from a familial condition, some seem to result from the ingestion of PPIs, while other do arise because a person is unfortunately developing a precancerous or cancerous condition. So as hard as it is to wait, that's really the best option.

Tumor is a word docs use when any kind of a growth is found. It doesn't necessarily mean cancer which is the way I believe many people view it when they hear the word. But it's very jarring when a doc says the word. So a person needs to ask tumor as in 'just growth,' or tumor as in 'cancer.'

pseudocysts were found in my pancreas six years ago, and they were surgically removed. They were non cancerous, as most are. The surgery was successful, but in some cases will cause calcium buildup, and scar tissue damage to increase over the years. Make sure that you get two opinions as this may help. The surgery was very painful, but only because MY surgeon did not provide the proper pain meds after my release from the hospital. It took awhile to heal. Good luck.
