Tortuous colon

Hi, on my last colonoscopy, my gastroenterologist said I should have a repeat colonoscopy after 5 years because oI have a tortuous colon.  I suppose that means he could not get a good look in that section of the colon.  Meanwhile, my primary care doctor says that is NOT a good reason to have a repeat so soon because the procedure itself is risky.  What to do?  Please help.

Repeating the colonoscopy every 5 years won't hurt anything.  The older we get the greater our risk is for polyps developing.  By getting checked every 5 years you can nip anything in the bud before it becomes serious.  Listen to your GI doctor...this is his area of expertise.  Hope this helps.

How old are you?  Do you have any GI symptoms?  Did the doctor say whether or not he was able to get a good look at the whole colon?

Thanks for your reply and the advice.  Since it's now actually 7 years since my last colo, I'll split the difference and make the appointment.  The procedure is okay but I HATE the prep, ugh!

Read what mamo says ,she is exactly right, my hubby has a colonoscopy every two years, because one time they discovered a small polyp, ( non cancerous thank god) and has had no sign of others. His GI says there is no problem checking early .
