Very dark / almost black (?) stool. A bit worried

Hi everyone

The past two bowel movements or so (this morning, and yesterday), I have experienced quite dark - possibly even black stool. It is not "tarry", and while they have not been solid masses, they aren't sticky, or a "mess" to clean up, so to speak.

Being St. Patricks day weekend, I've been a little lax with my diet. I normally don't drink very much, or eat much junk food.

But the past couple of days, I have eaten quite a bit of junk food, alcohol (maybe 2-3 small glasses of red wine and beer/liquor the past two days) and GREEN food dye (pure green donuts, cookies, and even green colored cocktail drink). Pizza (not sure if red sauce is a culprit), donuts with blackberry jelly inside.

I have had dark stools before, but they have always been false melena to my knowledge based on eating beets, pepto bismol, the like. However, I haven't had these things the past two days.

Could alcohol / general junk food/sugar/jelly and green food dye (like a pure green glazed donut) cause these colors in my stool, particularly if I had a sudden "binge" of these things that I don't typically ingest? Again, no pain in my stomach, or other GI issues out the ordinary i'm experiencing. Stools are "soft", but they are easy to clean up, not very sticky seeming at all.

I drink a lot of coffee, but I always have, and this has been very sudden for the past two bowel movements, and only since ingesting these things.

Thanks! I'm really paranoid.

If it's not tarry, it's probably what you ate. If you feel fine and it's just your stool, it is most likely the food. However, if it does continue for over a week, see a doctor! Hope this helped!
