Vomiting at night

My eight year old son has had episodes of vomiting at night for several years. He will vomit one night a week for three or four weeks straight and then not again for several months. Then he'll vomit three nights in a row...only one time per night.... and then not again for another few months. We thought it may be a food allergy, we noticed that he seemed to do better when not drinking juice, but then he won't have had juice for several months and he'll have another episode. He wakes up two to three hours after going to bed. We hear him cry, he vomits a huge amount and then falls right back to sleep. Often times he doesn't remember the next day. He is otherwise very healthy. After nights when he has vomited, he acts completely normal. The pediatrician seems stumped. I had them give me a referral to a pediatric GI, but our appt. is not for a few more weeks. Any ideas as to what this could be?

His doctor says that everything is normal, but night after night he vomit and the next day he is fine. Let me know how your son is doing. Take care Jenny

I was watching Mystery Diagnosis and they had a similar story to yours the child would vomit once per night and then fall right back asleep and wouldn't have any memory of it the next day.  They did a sleep study and discovered that she was actually having a seizure that would induce the vomiting episode.  She was put on medication for seizures and it stopped the vomiting.  Just a suggestion.

My 9 year old granddaughter is doing pretty much the same thing.  She has milk and peanut allergies and asthma.  The doctors don't think allergies are the cause, but don't know what is.  She has been to the emergency room during an "attack" and they didn't find anything out.  She will undergo more tests next week, but I wondered if you had any more information.

My son is 10 and has had similar bouts with nighttime vomiting. He has milk and egg allergies that cause vomiting, but he never has anything that he is allergic to that would trigger this. He says his burps taste like "cheerios" and he gets severe stomach pain until he vomits. Once in a while he gets a sharp pain in his chest muscle (maybe growing pains), and a mild headache as well. Then he is fine for the night and the entire next day. But come 2 or 3 in the morning, it happens again. I took him to the ER one morning because I was afraid of Appendicitis. It was ruled out, as was an intestinal blockage. Blood tests were also normal. This has been happening off and on each month for a few days at a time since November. It is just so frustrating. I am thinking a trip to the allergist is the next move. Maybe he has developed a different food allergy? Any suggestions?

I'm having the same problem.  This has been going on for years.  We go through several days of night time pain....vomitting and diahrrea included, then nothing for a month or so, sometimes a couple of months.  He wakes up fine the next day.  Have you gotten any more feedback from doctors?
