What are these symptoms of ?...

i am only 19 and i have been having severe abdominal pain, nausea, and explosive diarrhea. The pain comes and goes and some times this pain is so bad that I am doubled over in PAIN.  I have almost dropped items which i was holding from the pain just shooting in me.  It is usually atound the upper abdominal area under the sternum.  Some morinings i am even woken up from teh pain. The nausea just stays with me and really never completely goes away as well as the diarrhea.  (by the way: I do have hyperthyroidism and have started on tapazole again incase this has anything to do with these symptoms).

Hi aynslee_59:

I'm so sorry to hear about your pain, nausea and explosive diarrhea.   It would be really helpful to know what tests you've had, i.e.: Ultrasound, CT-Scan, HIDA Scan, MRI, etc.  If you haven't sought out medical attention yet, symptoms that severe should send you running to your Family Doctor/Primary Care Physician (PCP) or Hospital Emergency Room

If I could give you a couple of pieces of advice, they would be:

Do your own research!
Learn as much as you can so you can talk to and understand your PCP.  There is a fantastic research resource that I've found very helpful called "The First Principles of Gastroenterology": http://gastroresource.com/GITextbook/en/Default.htm.   You can either search the whole book or select individual chapters on the left (i.e.: 13 - Biliary System).  For abdominal pain overview, check out: http://www.medicinenet.com/abdominal_pain/article.htm.

Keep a journal!
It's exceptionally useful to keep a journal or a blog and your welcome to read mine if you want.  Everyone who is registered on medhelp has a journal on their home page.  It's a great way to review your situation objectively and identify patterns in your symptoms, medications and pain level.  Hindsight is 20/20 and keeping a log might help you look at things more objectively over the longer term.

It's really difficult to deal with pain especially when you don't have a diagnosis.  You are not alone!  Try to stay positive and reach out for support.  Talk to your Doctor, your family, friends, co-workers, church or social service volunteers or anyone you feel safe with.  Reach out to members of this forum who want to voice their opinions.  Remember though, that no one should be giving you medical instructions or medical advice on health-related matters except your health care team.

Take care of yourself.  Good luck and Godspeed.

When you do find answers, please post to let everyone know what you found and how you got rid of your symptoms.  It gives people on this site hope to hear success stories.

All the best,

Sam

Have your doctor check for gastroparesis. The test for that is eating radioactive eggs and have him do the one that is longer then 90 minutres. Patients with thyroid diease sadly like diabetics get this stupis illness. Please have this checked out. Are you lactose tolerant or have Celic (can't eat wheat products) . That is a simple blood test . Rae
