If the blood is bright red it us usually not serious...it could just be a rip in anus or rectum resulting from constipation and straining. Typically if you have some type of ulcerative colitis such as Crohn's disease, bleeding is more severe and mixed in with feces and is typically black or dark. Do you have any other symptoms such as stomach pain or nausea?  How much blood is there? Is pooping painful? Is the bleeding frequent? These are questions your doctor would probably ask you as well. Anytime there is blood with a bowel movement you should contact your dctor, if for nothing else peace of mind. They may take a stool sample to see if there is any blood in your actual feces, or they might do a rectal exam. It is not a bad idea to cover your bases, but many people have the same issue you have and more than likely taking a stool softener, or taking a warm bath to help moisturize the anus helps. Hopefully this helps! Feel better soon!
