can i make my stool tougher/harder

The problem i have is that i have to use too much toilet paper when i go to the bathroom. For a couple of days i had normal bowel movements which came out smoothly and it required no wiping - it was in heaven. It's the first time i've felt happy in a long time, as i can't get out of the house because of bathroom issues. I went to the bathroom earlier, about a couple of hours ago, but when i next visit shortly i will need to wipe alot despite not needing a bowel movement(it will be be continous wiping from when i went a few hours ago). I think soft bowel movements that don't break up properly are the issue. I therefore think tougher fecal matter would help. I don't have any regards for long term health problems caused by eating a poorer diet to make my stool harder. Water, Fibre and all the rest of it will just equate to misery.  I'd particularly like advice on the effect taking longer between each meal would have. I feel as if my body almost takes longer to break up foods and form them better if i eat too much. Even the state are pressurising me into a capability for work assessement even though i can't get out of the house because of my problems. It's getting me down slightly.

Hi there!

Well, the only known natural way to make the stool harder is to increase the fiber content of the diet. Fiber would not only help in building formed stools but is also beneficial for long term GI health. The number of bowel movements is highly variable between individuals and a change (increase or decrease) is often due to secondary conditions such as GI issues, hormonal/ endocrine imbalances, side effect of a few medications etc. I would suggest consulting a gastroenterologist for a detailed evaluation. After a primary cause is identified, it can be managed accordingly.
Hope this is helpful.

Take care!

Thanks for your reply. Should a balance be struck in terms of grams between soluble and insoluble fibre. I was also wondering whether fruit with juice such as grapes and oranges helps promote better movement, and whether or not there is a more beneficial time to drink fluids...such as before or after a meal and perhaps not during  ?

I will research what you mention with regards to possible issues surrounding hormonal/ endocrine imbalances. I'd love to see an expert, but i'm just not leaving the house right now.
