colorless stools in 3 year old

Hello-- My 3 year old daughter's stools finally firmed up after 2-3 days of extremely loose, explosive diarrhea. This morning I was shocked by the vision of a bowl movement that was almost totally colorless, i.e., white. The child is normally fine-- perfectly healthy most of the time. However, I've never seen anything like this before. Could it reflect something serious, e.g., cholestasis? Thanks to all for your advice!

Bile is the substance that gives the stool it's color. It's secreted as a yellowy-green and as it travels through the digestive tract doing its job and being acted on by enzymes, it changes to the brown color we have come to associate with a 'normal' stool. If her stool is colorless it could be due to a lack of release of bile which can be serious. Make sure you call her doctor.

I would get her to the pediatrician.  I have no idea what it could be, but for this to occur after a bout of serious diarrhea, it warrants getting her checked out.
