, no blood or mucous since June 24 2007. Began four hours after eating out and having a salad at a well known restaurant, Have continued to suffer with Intermittent anorxia, gas
and blouting and frequent loose and or diarrhea stools.. Some days are better than others. Have had two sets of stool cultures, of which one came back positive for blastocystis hominosis. Have been on cipro one week, bactrim one week and finally flagyll two weeks. Will have a few days where I feel better only to again feel poorly with above listed symptoms. Appears the GI upset is unrelated to food. Had a colonoscopy yesterday which showed a healthy normal colon. The phospho soda laxative
was brutal. I'm still having explosive diarrhea since the colonscopy. Is this normal? I've been pretty religious with probiotics. I'm getting really tired and discourged. Is it possible that all the antibiotics and the insult of the phospha soda could be causing the resurgence of the diarrhea? I'm able to eat but am restricting myself to soft bland foods with immodium when necessiary. Thank's

Hi - I have Crohn's and have had numerous colonoscopies over the years. The current diarrhea could be caused by the prep for the colonoscopy. I would stay on a bland low fat, low fibre diet for a week and see if the diarrhea improves to where you have a normal stool. I tried flagyll twice, and was so nauseous, diarrhea worse, that I won't take it anymore. You could ask your doc for another course of cipro - when I had a particularly bad flare I was on Cipro for nearly 2 months.

I was diagnosed with a parasite infection in June 2007. I must have gotten in from eating a salad that was sitting out for 6+ hrs on a hot day or from drinking a health drink which I remember smelled spoiled but tasted ok. I was given metronidazole (500 mg 3x a day for 10 days).
It's been 2 and a half weeks since the treatment but my sympotms appear to be coming back.
I looked into herbal treatments and apparantly grapefruit seed extract is good and in health food stores you can find worm/parasite herbal remedies. I have read that it usually takes a while before any improvement is seen. Another important thing to do is to try your best to keep your immune system strong. This will help your body fight b. hominis. Try taking raw garlic. Also, if b. hominis is in the colon, you might want to mix the grapefruit seed extract with grape seed oil. The oil will transport most of the grapefruit seed extract to the colon (otherwise, it will get absorbed by the stomach and the small intestine).
Please keep us posted regarding your progress. Good luck to you.
Thanks.
I had diarrhea bad and I worried that it would never go away. Multiple doctors didn't have a clue. All the drugs they gave me just made my symptoms words. Test after test came back negative. This is what finally worked for me... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRcslVrqwBY
