endoscopy and colonoscopy at the same time? I'm nervous!

I am over 50 so I have to have a routine colonoscopy, and I was diagnosed with gerd, and I have bleeding from the front and back, which has now subsided, is it safe to have both of these tests at the same time? and will I feel pain during and after?

Ditto to all of the above. I was surprised at how good I felt despite having a benign polyp removed. The nurse told me they'd be placing a mouth guard to protect my teeth and off to sleep I went. The next thing I knew, it was all over and I was in the recovery area! I didn't have any negative symptoms the next day either.
Good luck.

I had both procedures done at the same time back in January. It's a piece of cake, really! The worst part is drinking that "lovely" colon cleanser the day before. Make sure you have that day off as well as the day of the procedure. The day of the procedure they will have you put on a hospital gown and lay on your side on a hospital bed. They will take your vitals and hook you up to a heart monitor. You will have the doctor and at least one nurse in there with you. The nurse will be watching your vitals and giving you the sedation. They will put the mouth piece in your mouth to open up your mouth. It doesn't hurt. At that point, you will be sedated to the point that you should fall asleep. Before you know it, they will be waking you up so you can go home. The whole thing should take less than an hour. They may briefly go over what they saw or at least tell the person with you, as you will be groggy still and probably won't remember what they said! Make sure you have someone there with you to take you home. They won't release you unless you do. You shouldn't experience any pain from this, although you may be somewhat gassy for awhile. Just take it easy for the rest of the day, get some sleep and something light to eat, like a broth based soup and you should feel great by the next day!
Hope that puts your mind at ease a little!
Take care!

Hi Catherine
I recently had both procedures done at the same time, it is perfectly safe, and is painless providing they sedate you during this. You will feel no pain after.
It will take about 45 mins and you will be home the same day.
