Had my gallbladder removed 13 months ago, since Oct 4 2008, chronic diarreha and left lower abdominal ache, they did all tests, now doing a stool test for fat in stool, malabsorption, and scheduled for colonoscopy to biopsy for some kind of colitis
If they're checking for fat malabsorption, make sure they also check for celiac disease - although that can't be done via colonoscopy. There is a fecal
antibody test to check for celiac disease, however.
Chronic diarrhea can also be a result to not being able to process fats as a person did before gallbladder surgery. Many, unfortunately, have the problem and have to follow a low fat diet. If everything comes back negative, you may want to see if that helps at all.
Oh man, bacon is the WORST! I don't vomit, but it can make me sick for one to two days after I eat it.
CalGal--I had the same situation and I saw several doctors, one of which told me to increase fiber and calcium in my diet while lowering fat intake. At first I thought he was full of it, but I tried it for a week (by taking a psyllium supplement, eating lots of vegetables and insoluble fiber cereals and keeping fat to lower levels) and within days my episodes were gone (which was like a miracle). Now I get them usually if I eat high-fat, low-fiber foods for DAYS (like on vacation or over the holidays something).
