going for a HIDA and another endoscopy

I've been having abdominal pain on and of for the past ten yaers or so (more on in the last 5). Pretty constant, can't eat anything really w/o it flaring, horrible spasms across my entire abd anywhere from 15 to 45 min after eating and they last up to 4 or 5 hours. The only wierd thing is I've actually gained weight, not lost it because my body has kicked into starvation mode (not good, I know).

Finally had enough of this last flare, so I'm having a CCK on thurs and another ultrasound.  I'm the kind of patient docs hate because I'll deal with stuff forever before going to see them. My GI doc said the CCK would probably feel like I got kicked in the gut by a mule if that was my problem. Is that what it feels like if the GB is bad?

Oh, GI doc also said that if the regimen change didn't solve the problem, he was going to check what my pH is inside my esophagus, especially since the esophagitis seems to be a persistant thing.

Well, HIDA scan was normal (surprise, surprise). They did find that I still have esophogitis and they found an ulcer (that one's new). So they're playing with the meds a little to see if that helps.

I was kinda iffy on the HIDA scan though... was dealing with the flu, so I wasn't able to eat much of anything at all. Kinda thinking that let my GB rest a little too much before the scan.

Only 4 hours four this one, not from midnight like for the US. They wanted to see if I could get into one of the other offices that did the scans that day, but they were all about 30-45 min away on a good day and this was in the middle of the morning rushhour. Needless to say I was a little ticked, probably b/c my sugar was dropping lol

My daughter had to wait 3 days as inpatient bcz they didn't do it on th weekends!  So sorry you have to wait ... ok .. eat some foods that will kick your GB into some dysfunction the night before the test LOL .... get it geared up to show what is going on LOL .. (only kidding). . .

How long do you have to fast?  My dd was on IV so it didn't matter in her case.

well, so much for getting everything done in one shot. the yahoos in the rad office didn't tell me that they didn't do nuc med studies at that particular office the day they scheduled me. didn't find out til after they finished my US today. talk about someone who was HOT. so, now i have to wait another week for the HIDA scan.

Thanks for the info, especially since all I knew was the technical stuff about the scan. I just hope this narrows down what's wrong. After 10 years of pain, enough's enough.

My daughter had increase in pain but her pain was a 12 on scale of 10 when she went in for the test so they  weren't even sure what her pain response was .. they even ?'d if they should do the test while in so much pain but they had to bcz it was 5 days in the hosp and all normal labs and ultrasound, too!  Her results were a 4% function rate!!!!!!

She had the one shot deal and they watched her physical response to the pain increase over a 3min time after the CCK was administered.

She is 16yrs old and had her GB removed last month and doing great and all symptoms gone!!!!!!  She said the abdom pain you describe felt rigid as if she was doing Pilates for 5hrs straight .... tight like a spasm across the belly along with typical GB pain, too.

If the technique uses CCK in a 'one-shot' deal, then yes, it may be uncomfortable. If the CCK is given over a period of time, it will be similar to your body's release of it's normal CCK after you take in food.

It's hard to say whether you'll be very uncomfortable or have little discomfort. Even people with very 'distressed' gallbladder can range in what they feel.

Not all the mules kick the same way...

Having spasms 15-45 minutes after eating speaks for gallbladder disease. So you have to rule this out first. One of other possibilities is intestinal obstruction, but for this, other investigations are needed.
