high stomach pain after rest

Adter several hours of sleep, I awaken with intense upper stomach pain which subsides as the the day progresses. What could cause this type of pain?

i have similar pains,in the spot just below my ribline dead center,and it extends into my back,,last a few seconds to a few minutes,then goes away,i have been having this for years!
its never manafested itself in any way,other then that,and it has never progressed to a head yet,,i sometimes wish it would!
i have had my pancreas checked,gallbladder,arteries,all checked,a barium swallow,,,2 ct scans,and they cannot find sh-t!
i think gerd can manifest itself like this if im not mistaken?
please let me know what you guys think,,,id luv to know what it realy is!,,almost feels like a bad cramp in my diaphram or something that last a few second to a few minutes,,then goes away.

hi kevin after a lot of rest I have severe pain in my sternum and ribs and I also have an ulcer and my doctor tells me it is referred pain from the ulcer is it in your chest and back at all ??
